Year Charter Granted: 3528
History: Quinken Quicktoes, leader of the Crosstreams Spelunkers, discovered the underground city of Khar Feng in the year 1604. The next year, Quinken was present as the governor of Crosstreams led the Confederate Army to attack Khar Feng and saw the rapid and horrific destruction of the army by its subterranean residents. Quinken suffered years of nightmares from both the slaughter of the Crosstreams governor and Confederate Army and the panicked flight of the citizen observers when they fled back to Crosstreams.
As Quinken Quicktoes slowly recovered from the horrors of the Battle of Broken Fang Tor, a firm resolve to protect Crosstreams from the creatures under the surface settled in his gut. He used his Crosstreams Spelunkers as the seed for his new organization - the Underlights. The Underlights were just one of many small groups that operated as an unsanctioned but legal guild out of Crosstreams.
Crosstreams' Undercity was in the first phase of construction prior to 2593. During the previous three years, the construction crews were under constant threat of attacks from below. Quinken Quicktoes and his entire party had disappeared on a patrol almost a millennium ago, but his Underlights were still active. Their numbers had dwindled and fluctuated throughout the years, but when construction of the Undercity began, the Underlights' ranks swelled. They recruited more members and began mapping all the nearby tunnels uncovered by the construction. They also ran patrols of the tunnels and sent out long-range scouting parties.
In the year 2592, the Underlights were responsible for defending the fledgling Undercity from a monstrous army during the so-called Fight for the Undercity. The enemy was called the Aphotic Army by its Kimonictinus-spawned leader, Lurid Oppugnant. After the victory, the governor of Crosstreams publicly thanked the current leader of the Underlights, Marlon Whispertoes, and recognized the Underlights as official protectors of Crosstreams and the Confederation of the Seven Cities from the creatures of the Underdark.
Goals: Keep the Underdark's denizens away from civilization.
Membership: Anyone can join the Underlights.
Advancement: Advancement is through joining patrols and doing quests to help keep the Underdark's denizens from civilization (see Table: Society Titles below).
